Cutting Height to close

Hello
Im using PM 85( Really Great !!!) Mach 3 Sheet cam but now the cutting height is way to close and the tip sometimes hits the material The torch scenes the height of the material lights and then when it should go down to cutting height it goes right to the material
can anybody help me I have checked the ground and polished it

George, tell us about your equipment. What controller, Digital Torch Height Control?

If you have THC you may need to put a slight delay so the arc has time to stabilize before the THC takes control I use like a 1.5 second.

If the torch is too close (on steel it should be at .060") then dial in a higher arc voltage setting. Higher voltage equals higher height. An increase of 1 volt will raise the torch approximately .004".

As consumables wear while cutting....a pit builds on the end of the electrode and the nozzle orifice enlarges slightly. As the pit gets deeper while running at a constant arc voltage....expect the torch to get closer to the material. If the electrode pit is .060" deep (1/16") expect the torch to move that same distance closer to the material.....meaning a collision with the material.
