Anyone have Torch "shield" to prevent sparks from flying
Forgot where I saw it, but someone had what looked to be a 3 or 4" diameter tapered piece over their torch to prevent sparks from going all over when you pierce. Anyone see something like this? I'd like to add one for when I cut thick parts

I have one I use when needed. I made mine from a rubber toilet plunger head, just bored a hole in it the same size as my machine torch. It works good at cutting down on sparks and splashed water from my water table. Someone else on here had one they made from a sink stopper.

I cut out a 5" round piece of silicone RED rubber from McMaster Carr. Cut out a center hole about 5/8" and stretch it over my PM45 hand torch head. It really helps cut down on water tub splash. The sparks don't shoot upward but rather outward in my case. On rare occasion I might get a pierce spark that pops upward and misses the rubber shield.

I use this when I am cutting really thick plate, helps keep all the flying molten steel on the table when piercing thicker plate.

Why didn't I think of that??? D'oh!
So rubber does not melt/catch on fire?

They were. Not sure if you can tell but the Z axis was almost out of travel. In the up direction. Those were 1 1/4" mild steel. Hard on the grates cutting that thick. For some reason the plasma arc doesn't just stop when it goes through the material.........
Fwiw, I tried the rubber shield, it got ugly real quick, but I have a downdraft no water table. I only use a shield when I'm cutting 3/4" or thicker.
