Split Monagram files

Post by little blue choo »

OK listen up. After many messages and emails and phone call I've decided to share this info with everyone, not just the one's who have asked for it. Here's a link to the split monogram letters I've been using. All 26 for about $3.00. Best money you'll ever spend. They have several styles to choose from. Go spend some money. You can thank me later when you get rich off of these. ;) I have 7 on order now.

Hey Rick,
What size and thickness of material do you usually cut those? Can you share $ you are charging?

I cut them from 16 gauge. I cut them 22 inches on the longest side, meaning an I or J would be 22 inches tall and a W or M would be 22 inches wide. I sell them for $60.00 Some say that is too cheap but I sell as fast as I can make them. I am averaging 6 a week. I try to patina them all at once and it only takes me about 1 hour to set up, patina, dry and clear coat. The acid bath takes the longest of any part of it and I just do that while I'm running my other business.

Hey Buddy, I bet you spent more than $3.00 worth of time on one letter. Purchase the files and spend time cutting or just have a cool one. ;)

Wifey purchased the files and when she opens the dxf file, only the top half shows. She contacted the person that sold them but so far no help.
Any thoughts?

Allen,

is that with every letter or just letters like an S where the top is the same as the bottom.

Just wondering if the maker didn't see a need to double up on such letters.

Well, the problem is solved. They converted and resent the files as dxf but they were still the same...(Beefy) only the top half of each letter was there. So wifey took the svg files that were included and converted them to dxf and problem solved.

And thanks Rick.

Thanks for sharing but I do have a question. I am using Corel X7 and it seems that certain letters after we weld the name to the monogram and do a print preview the name drops out. Others work perfect. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks for any help

UPDATE: I answered my own question. It seems some of the monograms open in Corel with slight gaps in the curves. I stumbled on this by looking at the gap tolerance after selecting join curves. Closed the gap tolerance to 0 and problem solved.

Sometimes when you weld an object, and that object has a drop-out, the drop-out doesn't get included and instead, goes in back of the object being welded (only the outter most area welds, the rest doesnt). Because anytime you create a new object (like welding two objects together creates a new object), the newest object appears on top of all other objects. The name may not be dropping out but instead, the insides may be moving to the rear of the new object which would only be the outline of the name and not actual letters. When you print, you may be only printing the top most layer which would not include all the smaller pieces that are behind it.

To see if this is what is happening, change your view to simple wireframe and see if all the images are there. If so, you may need to select all the inner drop-out pieces and "Trim" them into the newly created object.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

Thanks Gamelord. I will take a look at that if it happens again. Hopefully it won't but I was really stumped for a bit. I do use wireframe when welding but haven't tried Simple Wireframe I guess....what is the difference? Thanks again.

I had a similar problem with Inkscape and what I found was it depended on the type of attachment I was trying to do as to how to do it. It was not that a command worked for all situations. Like if I was attaching letters to the outside I could use “union”. But on the inside of an Oval where the letters touched both edges the command was “difference” to join the letters.
I know Inkscape and Corel are different but you may find some operation may be done differently because of the situations.

Has anyone else that's ordered these had some issues with some of the letters, particularly the rounded areas on the decorative parts? I have used both the DXFs and the SVGs in two different CAD programs and in Inkscape, and they look great in the drawing programs, but once I run them into Sheetcam, there are some issues. I'll attach a picture instead of trying to explain it. It's the same part of several different letters that is giving me a problem, so I don't know if the problem might have been in the original drawing they attached to the letters or what. It's basically either sending a cut path right across the middle of a circle, or the circle isn't fully closed and it's an open path. In all the drawing programs the paths are definitely complete, though.

No problems at all. I have used 18 different letters so far and some of them many times. Who did you purchase yours from? I would be calling them.
