First layered sign

Post by SomethingMetal »

Well I made this sign for my uncle over the weekend. Wanted to show you guys my first attempt at layering a sign. It turned out pretty good but I have some things I need to work on still.

Haha. I love the thing that is attached to the fingers........... The font is Fedora. The font turned out perfect for the design.

That is a cool sign. I thru bolted the top piece to the bottom with 1/4-20 bolts. I drilled and tapped the top and then welded the bolts to it. I also placed the the same hole pattern on the bottom piece so they would match up.

Thanks, excellent description, a picture tells a thousand words, as they say. I have done a couple of backlit light boxes using normal bulbs but i.m thinking LCD strip lights will be much simpler.

FANTASTIC signs, truly fantastic !! You've got my mind a buzzin' now. I may have to try making a couple just for shits and giggles / heck of it.

On the FD sign in particular...

I do have a couple of real quick questions:
#1 - the LED / LCD lights, is there any kind of a power box that has to be mounted at the back or are they self-contained?
#2 - gauge of the metal?
#3 - did you do anything special by way of a bracket to hang them from on the back plate?

Thanks folks. Again, there are really GREAT pieces. I tip my hat to you both !
