cant quit smok'in....meat that is!

Post by Burnt »

I've been working on a "little" smoker project off and on for a month or so now. I figure it's far enough along to show some pics. It's all either 3/8 or 1/4" plate and is going to finish at about 1500 lbs. I still have some details to finish up but here it is anyway!

OK.....Now that is a serious smoker there!

Man that thing is going to hold the heat where you want it like nothing else.

Great work.

Here is the rotating shelve things being built. Basicly they will spin on a pole through the middle of the smoke box. I will build it so that it can be pulled out through the stack should it ever need fix'in. Hopefully the hog juice will keep them lubed up ;)

I should end up with room for 5 of them for a total of 330 sq. inches of smoking space....

I made the hubs with kind of a tab A into slot B deal

a quick little weld put it together

Got her done, did a "burn out" for about 24hours to season it in. This is not really a fire ball, just the way the sun hit the smoke.

Today we did two 10 pound pork shoulders a big brisket and about 5 pounds of chicken quarters. No one left my house hungry!

Burnt,
That is one great project with excellent craftmanship. We have so many feral hogs in this area that you could keep one of these smokers busy for sure. What size pipe did you make the corners out of?

Thanks,

Thanks! I havent been on this site for a while so sorry for the late reply...... It's from .25 x 20" pipe, I put 10" wide piecers of 1/4" plate between them so its basicly 30 inches square. I also ended up adding a 20" plow disk over the fire box opening to keep the drippings out of the fire. We had 200 pounds of brisket in it that made a bunch of greese, long story short we had a greese fire in it, not good. But it was easily choked out by shutting all the dampers. Glad we were close by when it started. I am making another right now that will have an octogon shape for the smoke box. I dont have any more pipe and thought this would work just as well.

Burnt,
Thanks for the feedback. I may try to build one on a smaller scale to give it a try. Good idea to go to a octogon shape and eliminate the pipe which is difficult to find in shorter lengths.
