Post by mrush »

Has anyone ever seen this? A friend of mine asked me to cut this, I have never seen the dxf anywhere.

Yes! That is from Cardboardsafari I am pretty sure! They have some amazing 3D things made of cardboard.. I emailed and asked them if there was any way I could buy a file for a one time use, and they pretty much told me exactly where to shove it. They said I could if I was a billionaire. Nice.

Good luck with that

This is my first post on here and would like to say thanks for a great file.

Can you please tell me what thickness of steel this is cut from as my cad program shows .220 " for the slot width, is this correct?

Andy.

question for you Shelby

Did you resize the slots for the 18 gauge or just deal with the slop?

thanks

I just held the the pieces to one side of the slot, making sure to pick the same side every time.

I started with the "wall base", flat on the table. Then putting the "long pieces" in the "wall base", holding them vertical with magnets. Weld the nose on, toward the front of the slot. This will hold every thing up and kinda square. I started at the back, and worked toward the front.

I hope this helps.

I made a similar cutout from 11 gauge. Its pretty heavy but still a nice addition to the garage.

We made this one in our Metal shop at school. It is 3/16" and weighs about 70lbs! Had to get the lead shields and lag screws out to hold it to the wall. We used Muratic Acid followed by vinegar to rust it and then shot it with some clear coat.

I decided to give it a try, the kids and I put it together. We made a stand for it and I put it in an auction for scholarships this weekend. It brought $600 in the auction--pretty pleased!

Here's mine, thanks for sharing. I scaled it to 14 ga material. I noticed one piece scaled slightly smaller and one antler did not cut correctly. It was not mirrored so, have to correct that on the next one. Now to cut one out of 10 ga. Should be interesting.

On a side note finally got my ohmic sensor made correctly, so I have proper contact. I only had one metal strip previously, that sucked, now, much better. This cut out with minimal and I mean minimal amounts of dross.

Will you be willing to share your DXF file for cutting this from 16g?

Here it is. It is a little too tight on my machine. You can do one of two thing. Scale it up slightly or change the kerf on your tool in sheetcam to be slightly smaller than it really is. I would scale it personally.

I hope this helps,
Byron
