Grizzly Surprise Coffee Table

Post by elkriverfab »

Here is a table I finished welding today.

I cut the scene a couple of months ago and made the frame at the same time.
I decided to clean it up and finish building it today.

The bears and the mountain man are from one of plasmacams art discs and I added the tree scenes and mountain background.

I am hoping to sell it at an event this weekend.

Any ideas of pricing on this thing?
It measures 4 feet long and 3 feet deep.

I will let the buyer purchase the glass they want.

I usually finish them with easy torch and copper plating.
It gives it a nice leather look.

This time I am going to prime and paint this one gloss leather oil base.

I added the scroll to fill in the open areas, didn't want to add too much art to it and have it come out looking to funky

Just thought I would share.

Very Nice! I would say $150.00 in material,
3hrs labor@$60/hr= $180.00,
3 coats of whatever $30.00.

Add it all up=$360 bones you would need to cover your cost, then add on to make money. I would say $395.99 - $430.00 would be a fair price for that.

Let us know what you sell it for. What price were you thinking or hopeing to get?
Thanks, Metal Lee

Metal Lee,

Don't know what I was hoping.......

It is going to be at an event that sells everything from low end to high end.

About 14,000 people Saturday and Sunday.

I usually get about $1,200 for my smaller tables but with more detail and a custom finish but this event is one I have never been to before.

Sometimes these kinds of items are tricky, you don't want to over shoot and you don't want to under cut either.
I have found it just takes that one person that has a room that would go great with a table like this.

Those people never ask about price they just want it.

So...........I will have to play it buy ear. May sell it, or It may go in the living room after the event:lol:

I price my tables like my gates.
I wont do any kind of gate with scenes for under $600.00

I will build simple gates like you can find at farm or home stores for a little more than they could buy it off the floor.
I just add a simple logo or something to spice it up.
But usually I wont touch it for under $600.00

I have found the people who contact me to be so picky with what they want that I charge them for it.
It can take a couple of weeks to finalize their design.

But they also get a nice custom piece that they would never of found.

If I get $400.00, that would be fine with me but I will keep an eye out for the one who has that room

Shawn,
I made a table about that size, with two end tables 18" square matching set for a Harley club member.
$1500.00 Just to give you an idea. "That person" is who you are looking for.

Loyd,

Thanks......And I did get your email about the bending ring.

I WILL get the photos to you.

It fits great and the way you made the base post mounting bracket (flexible) it does press right in with room for the two bolts behind it.

I have just been slammed with weird and difficult (to say the least) projects lately.

That and trying to keep up with repairs and daily chores here.

I don't have any help and this ranch has been taking a toll on my body and sanity lately.
I was telling Eagle Mtn D&D the other day that I have been working until 3:00am each night trying to keep the funny farm running and trying to finishing these silly welding projects at the same time*********and summer isn't even here yet*********

But I have not forgotten about you.

I will try to get those to you this weekend (Sunday evening) :D

Shawn I know what you mean....I did so much running yesterday with the good weather I put THREE tanks of gas in my truck. People are washing their cars like crazy and it causes breakdowns and of course people need chemicals...

I think that $1200 is a very fair price.
You have computer time and time to pick up material even time to show it .
prep and paint takes a lot of time and skill.
Also you have shop time.
And amortize your equipment.
I had one person say " you cheated you used a machine to cut it"
My reply was You buy the machine and welder and sanders and paint guns AND! learn how to assemble and weld in a quality fashion.
Then tell me I cheated.
don't let people talk you down. Just try to sell them a welder. LOL!
Nice job. do you have a picture of it completed?
