BBQ Grill - Non Welded

Post by RAD »

Hi folks, thought I would share my bbq pit grill. (not the file sorry!)

It's made from 3/32" (2.4mm) thick steel, just under 10 gauge and was bent by hand and permanently assembled without welding, did not have equipment like press brake and welder so I had to innovate. its rigid and held up well to the heat when grilling but only used it once though.

It has some nice features like adjustable air dampers, clean-out hatch for charcoal ashes and carry handles. Would like to do one with a cover but would cost almost double. Grilling area is approx. 12" x 22" and overall height is 11" it has a 4" clearance from underside the pit to the table top.

This is my first time building a bbq pit and welcome your comments on how I can maybe improve, would also be glad to answer any questions, TIA.

What software did you use to design the tabs and precise fit? or did you use paper templates?

Very well thought out.

Thanks, no paper templates other than the cardboard template I used to get the bends at the correct angles. It was designed it in AutoCAD, the slits to receive the two ends was a bit tight but a quick pass with a 1/16" cutting disc did the trick, other than that everything went together well.
