Dinosaur Project

Post by d2day »

A fun project that I modified a file I purchased online from a size of about 1 foot tall out of wood to over 7 foot tall and 11 foot long. I cut the dinosaur on my 4x4 table so there were 4 sets of pieces generated to fit the table. I made it from 1/4 metal and welded all the pieces together to complete the project. It weighed approximately 350 pounds so I had to use a tractor and some help from a neighbor to put it in place. It was designed to stand on its feet but I added a "prop" under the neck to make sure the local kids would be safe if they tried to climb on it. I sprayed it with a mixture of salt and vinegar to enhance the rusting and to speed the effect up. Counting the cad work, cutting and assembly, and install time it took about a week and a half to make.

The flag was added later celebrate Memorial Day and a Grandson that is in the 82nd and his safe return from Iraq.

Very nice. I make one similar but I modified the file so it is standing upright, with head up and tail down. I use 10 gauge steel.

Thanks for the kind words...would you be willing to share the points you modified. I could make one with my laser to figure it out, but time and materials make that not the best option. I appreciate any info you are willing to share.

Anyone interested in doing this project can get the file from makecnc dot com, it was very inexpensive less than $10 and comes sized to 3 different thicknesses of material. I wanted it to be larger so I sized it to fit my machine and then fixed the slots so it would assemble correctly. Pretty simple conversion but took some seat time. Because I used the file from makecnc I can't legally share the cad work...
