Eiffel Tower III

Post by DXF »

The first picture shows a 5' tall Eiffel tower and a 7' tall one. I built the 5' tall tower out of 16 gage stainless steel and tig welded it together 15 years ago. I had just purchased my machine and wasn't sure if it would cut the holes accurate so I made another 7' tall tower and assembled it with (420) 10-32 screws about 6 years ago. The last picture shows a 5' tower I just finished building out of 14 gage and assembled with (418) 8-32 stainless steel screws. Major engineering change......eliminated (2) screws!

Thanks. When I sized the last one to 70% of the size of the 7' tall one the nuts would not fit so I had to redesign all corners and floors. Had to cut them all twice.....that sucked! I have already started gathering everything to build a leaning tower of Pisa. I plan to laser cut the latest Eiffel Tower design out of 14 gage stainless steel and light them up with solar powered LED lights.

That is so cool! Did you draw that up, or find the plans somewhere?

Totally in awe - you have some fine talent.

Thanks, I purchased blue prints for a scroll saw design and scanned them in pieces......the entire drawing would not fit on my scanner 15 years ago. Then redrew the entire tower because the prints were not perfect. Made a lot of engineering changes and resized it. Took many hours. I'm not that talented but I am very determined!

I will when I get it worked out.....although I would be under investigation if I post them for copyright infringement.

Those towers look awesome!!!! I'd love to make one of those, especially with lights :) The screws really add to the design too! Thats a lot of accurate drilling too. Any idea how many hours you have into the latest project?

Thanks, I have always loved the Eiffel Tower and now I have 3 of them. The holes were actually cut undersize on my machine and then re -drilled on my drill press to size. Not sure of the hours involved with cutting and assembly although probably have over 100 hours drawing and redrawing the dxf files. I could easily figure out the construction hours if someone wants to buy one. Haven't really tried to sell one yet but if terrorists ever attack the Eiffel Tower (I hope not) these might be worth some $. If you want to make one here are the plans I used and I won't sell or post my dxf files.
