My home built 2x72 grinder

Post by btburn »

So I wanted a 2x72 belt grinder so I could start making knives. I picked up a new old stock 3ph baldor motor and KBAC VFD for great prices of eBay. I picked up all the wheels and the gas strut off ebay as well. I had most of the fasteners and metal except for the 1.5x1.5 solid bar laying around. It was a lot of work but it works great and should last forever. Next I need to order a large contact wheel and make a jig for blades. I have about $450ish into it vs. $2000 to buy one.

nice job I see the bear footprint makes if your own.
I built a simple belt grinder some time back and it is a very handy tool to have mine's a 2 X 60, just 2 wheels.

For knife making get the biggest wheel you can afford - at least 12" and if you can get a 14 you will love it.

That's a pretty sweet piece of equipment you got yourself there Bill. Very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing and also thanks for the other thread showing the build.
