Stud welder it also keeps the weld impressions from showing on the front. The "I" needs some tweaking to get it to line up better but that's an easy fix. I will post a photo after installation. Weighs a little over 200 lbs. Best regards, John

No, it's all outsourced. One supplier has an 8' a 8' 7' and the other has a 20' x 10' x 8' I prefer automotive paint personally but they customer wanted these powder coated.....It will fade in 3 years tops.

Awesome looking sign.

Just curious, did the customer ask for it to ALL be Stainless Steel? I can understand the letters to be bright etc. but seems like a huge waste to powder coat over Stainless. Is there some reason like "it all has to be the same metal to weld" reasoning?

I have switched up all exterior commercial signs to 100% stainless. This is not something you want to take down every 7 to 10 years to re-powder or paint. It's expensive but it's nice and the customers so far don't mind the up charge for the stainless and if you chip it which you will hanging something this heavy there are no worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Best of luck out there.....John

Good to know. My comfort level with cutting stainless just isn't there yet, but I can understand the reasoning for commercial customers

John do you have a link or something for the type of stud gun you are using? I have only had dealings with two one great big one for iron work that had its own generator and a small one for body work.

This is the sign installed I wish the sun was out but I will get a better shot with my drone one day soon. For the person who asked I cut these upside down and we use a stud welder so there is no weld to work around they are expensive but not if you look for used ones. I hope you all make lots of money in this business I keep trying but it's like always chasing that dollar. Best regards, John

I'm watching "harbor freight stud welder" videos. I can only visualize putting studs on the back, but can't figure out the next steps.

Like, what size studs? How many? Are they lined up with holes from the backer and welded again?

Do you have any "process pics"?

Thanks in advance
Phil

"harbor freight stud welder"
similar method but with a larger diameter threaded stud
the harbor fright gun may do bigger studs but i've only seen the dent pulling studs
we used a lot of stud guns in structural steel erection
mostly for bonding a concrete slab to steel I beams and decking

What brand of powder coat did they use? Most of the stuff I have done is a 10 yr coating (in sun)....
