Plate marker art

Post by Oldsarge »

I've always thought that a plate marker could be used for more than making serial numbers or making holes for drilling... Now that I have one on the table in thinking of more uses... Here's a few pieces I did using the marker....

Looks good Mike, out of curiosity roughly how long did something like the sugar skull take? (platemarker is on my gunnadoo list)

Hey Murray!

The Sugar Skull took just a shave over 25 minutes to scribe.... 41+ lineal feet in all. Noisy, but I like the results... I have many more ideas for the process.... The really cool thing is that what you would spend hours cleaning up to be plasma ready you actually don't want to mess with for the plate marker! I'm working with some address signs right now... Another cool thing is that if you want to paint different colors the scribe lines act as a really good masking line, the blade follows the scribe mark perfectly... Here's another piece that uses the process....

I don't know what is available commercially, this one is home made..... It's a carbide tip in an engraving pen, marking on 14g cold rolled steel. The details that can be scribed are pretty impressive, and I'm still dialing it in...

Mike I've got a few questions....

1) Do you ever sleep???

2) When you are using the plate marker, do you cut first and then use your plate marker?

3) How are you clamping your part down? Must be a lot of vibration along with the noise!

I will get back to you on the bender, I thing that is a great price!

Thanks!
