Servo integration (Star Lab Servo)

We have a small minority of machines that run off of servo motors. While steppers will give you book cut speeds on our machines the servos will yield a much high cut to cut speed. They will boost your cut to cut time by 160% on machines ranging from 4x8 to 8x24. We are able to rapid at speeds of 1400ipm however most will be detuned to 1000ipm. All Star Lab machines feature a 3/4"x1" gear rack on X and Y axis which is capable of taking a very heavy torque load. We use extra large precision cut gears on our servo models and marry them to the gear box shaft with angled sloping flats and loc-tite style compounds. Precise machined and rigid mount integration gives you a much higher gear and gear box service life when compared to any other method. Precision, sealed, planetary gear boxes are the reduction units we use with the servo system. This system is available as an upgrade or at the time of purchase on all our machines and is standard on any gantry exceeding 6' of travel and any machine exceeding 12' of travel.

What brand of servos and gearboxes are you using? And what wattage of servos? It looks good in the picture.

Proprietary but they are of the highest quality. They also do not have the amp card integrated into the motor housing so they dont the possibility of overheating. An Amp card can put out a tremendous amount of heat in a small space. Quantifying an all in one motor/amp card combination requires us to rigorously test the motor under the harshest conditions and guarantee performance. One company tried the all in one motor and it almost put them out of business. A servo/encoder is a tried and true method of motion. The all in one has yet to be proven in our opinion.
