Plasma torch splash guard

Post by Simko »

I don't remember who originally posted this to give credit to, but it works great. Just enough to help with some splashing especially straight up onto the z-axis, but isn't so big to worry much about catching on tip ups. Cut it open and pull out the silicone check valve. $4.75 on Amazon 8-)

I like that idea. I dig the smaller diameter. I may have to pick one of these up and try it tomorrow!

That would me me.

I actually work at FRAM (going on 20yr), so these check valves are always around in our test lab. One day it just clicked in my brain. Not sure any other brand's check valve will work, since this component is 100% made to fit FRAM product and FRAM automation.

I was amazed at how perfectly they fit the Duramax torch. Been using one for 6mo+ on my home table without any issues. When i need to use the laser cross-hairs, I simply pop it off and then back on when setup & ready. You can even see the shield flow holes' reflection on the valve when the torch is lit.

100% will not and cannot sell to anyone, so please don't ask. Just go get yourself a FRAM oil filter. =)

I actually looked into getting a few hand-fulls of these check valve "splash guards" from the source. No chance. I don't own the tools, so that's that. Period. Only way to get these is to [1] buy a FRAM filter and gut it, or [2] procure the tooling & have the parts molded. Hey...I tried.

Thanks for trying, I have watched a video about filters where the guy cut them open for comparison and here is a screen shot of the start of the video showing the internal parts. It seems like only Fram has that style of check valve, Mobil one comes close, so its off to buy a Fram if you want one :) .

I started using one of these a couple of months ago after reading this post by Simko. All I can say is WOW what a difference it makes. Thanks to DMoneyAllstar for the original post and idea and thanks to Simko for his post as I missed the first one. Also thanks to acoutjester for the pics and info that Fram is the only one shaped like this.

That is for using an ohmic sensor, when the torch touches the metal surface it completes a circuit and tells the software where Z zero is.
It is not available on all Plasma manufactures

I cut open a used Fram the other day, and it's valve did not look like Simkos. It did work, but was not quite as wide. So different size Fram filters may have a little bit different valve size.
