Getting close to the finish

Post by acourtjester »

I am getting close to the finish of table #7, this is a scratch built DIY table. It is a 4X8 table base with both router and plasma torch mounts.
I have powered it up and did the steps calibrations home and limit switches are installed and wired. Attached are a few images.

Testing dust shoe when routing wood and aluminum, video shows it in action (turn down the sound). Removed 100% of the wood and 99% of aluminum.
I used 2 different bits, "V" on wood and 1/8" ball nose on aluminum. Not pleased with the ball nose :( I think the aluminum was sticking to it, will try a engraving bit soon.

Use flat end milling tool two flute up cut spiral for routing aluminum . Mist or flood coolant Ball end does not clear chip. V bit works on AL for simple signage.

Little more progress, attached a Drag Knife to the Z axis plate and cut some decals for the controller.
Also completed the Floating Head assembly. :D

Making some test cuts today with the router, I want to try custom Dovetails so I drew the 2 parts. Very happy with the first cuts I used a scrape to route them out and did a test fit. The orientation was not the way they would be for making joint but showed they will fit. :D
They ended up very tight need to adjust the finish allowance for a better fit.
