Making Eccentric Bushings Howto

Post by msimpson99 »

I just got through with a "Making an Eccentric Bushing" web page.

In the instructions I use a minilathe and a 4-jaw chuck. I have a little excerpt at the end on using a drill press as well.

You can find the posting here:

Since I got it perfected, I have made about 50, in the last 3 or 4 days. Mine is a very simple method, but I like how you tap the hole. This allows for some very interesting ways of using the thing. I think I can adapt that to my method by just using a #6 drill for a 1/4-20 tap.

acourtjester, are you selling those or do you just use that many?

I'd be interested in a set of them if you are selling. Thanks.

I do make and sell them for both standard 1006-2r roller bearings threaded and the "V" type bearing RM2-2RS through bolt 1/4"

In not selling them right now, but will probably offer them when my book is finished. I will also link to others who are selling them. I like to give options when sourcing parts.

I just added a 3-jaw chuck method to the web page.

I was able to create these three small bushings using that method.

These are small bearings with a 6mm opening. I'm using a #6 machine screw as the fastener.

You can find the 3-jaw chuck writeup here:

Its located at the bottom of the page.

I'll check the size on my bearings and get a set from you then. I have eccentrics on my v bearings but not the regular rollers. Seems like a worthwhile investment.

msimpson99, thanks for posting up that you aren't selling them yet, I was afraid I was crapping on your thread.

No problem
acourtjester has been a great help for me as I have been doing the research for my book. Hell, I was about ready to order some from him as well, but he convinced me I needed to get a lathe. Which is good as I want to make several size bushings for various projects.
