Changed the Scribe mount

Post by acourtjester »

I change the mounting for my scribe so I could leave the torch on and just install the scribe assemble next to it when I wanted to use it. Getting down to fine tuning I needed to figure out how much to move the table so the torch center and the scribe center matched when I wanted to use both for a project. Here is how I did it I set the torch up to do a center punch and then moved the scribe until the tip would go into the plasma hole. The plasma center hole was at Y 0.0? and X 0.0? to start. When I got close I dropped the speed down to 10% and would push the scribe down manually. Mine come out to be X 1.2168? and Y 6.3531? off zero. If I was going from the Plasma to scribe the numbers were positive it I went the other way both number had a negative before them. I?m sure if the scribe was on the other side of the torch the plus and minus would swap.

Thanks for this tip Tom. So you are saying you cannot leave the scribe on all the time. Let's say you want to cut out a plaque with some scibe on it like "Caution Hot". Can you just scribe it and then cut out the plate without any manual intervention. I have seen it done on YT but I am no where near anything like that.
Thanks.

AT this point I would do it like 2 tap files one after the other but I think with a little work I will figure out ho how to make in just one. There videos of others doing just that.
have fun

Tom:
I believe you need to put those offsets into the Sheet Cam programming somehow so it knows when you switch tools what the offset is.
On mine which was set up from LDR when I bought it. The torch is always 0,0. I create one tap file using the plate marker toolset first, then inside cuts, then outside. When it goes to scribe it will move the torch to the start of the scribe and then it will move the programmed offset distance and the scribe will move to the position the torch was in and it will start scribing. Hope that makes some sense.

If you are using the 11D post from CandCNC you can put the offsets in there for the scribe but make sure you convert it to MM.

Thanks for the input I will look into it. I have put a scribe routine in 11c and ran a simulation and the scribe seems to lift about half way through the pattern. When I watched the Z dro Which I though was odd. I'm still in the tuning phase but wil work out the bugs.

You be correct Blackandtan I pluged in the numbers and then ran a simulation with no air and plasma and it when though the motions fine. It looks odd on the screen as the 2 actions are offset from each other. I want to get the metal shinny before doing the scribe works so I can apply the patina after cleaning with acetone.

I agree it does look strange on the screen. Glad I could help, I am usually the one looking for help.

For those that are wondering what we are talking about Here is what it looks like in Mach. The scribe will mark the wings and text and plasma will cut the oval outside. SheetCam does the corrections after the offset is plugged into the post processor. Mine was about 1.2" for X and 6.3" for Y.
