Why Water Table?

Mad Water Table

Advantages

  • All stainless steel water table drastically increases the longevity when filled with fluid.
  • Most cost effective way to capture most (but not all) fumes and slag.
  • Minor cooling effect on material being cut if slats adjusted close to water level.

Disadvantages

  • Messy. Really messy. No seriously, they make a mess.
  • Steel sheets should be removed and dried after cutting to prevent corrosion. Additives to the table, such as Pico Quench Guard can help reduce corrosion and organics growing in the table.
  • Shallower bed depth limits plasma unit power to 125A and below. This limits the operator to 1" mild steel and thinner.

Why Air Table?

Mad Air Table

Advantages

  • Fallen part removal is much easier since you don't have to remove the slats or the plate loaded on the machine. Access is through the doors on both ends of the table.
  • When matched with a suitably sized air handler, excess smoke and fumes are captured more efficiently.
  • Extra bed clearance allows for the largest plasma units, up to 400A, and 2" mild steel plate thicknesses.

Disadvantages

  • Cost of an air handler. Without an air handler, a large amount of smoke and fumes are produced.
  • Since there is no cutting fluid, no cooling effect on thin gauge material.

A Solid Foundation

Big machine features, small machine price.

The MAD Series CNC Plasma Tables are configurable to use either an air table or a water table. Both share common tough design features detailed by Bob in this construction video.

Easy to put in place.

The heavy 3/16" steel subframe supported by sturdy 4" x 3" x 1/4" wall steel legs, underside reinforcement, and adjustable leveling pads allow for easy moving and setup. Just pick it up with a forklift, and then lock it down with the included locating plates.

Base leg photo

Flexible slat height.

Vertical adjusters raise the support slats for easy loading, or lower them for use with water.

Adjustable Slats Air Adjustable Slats Water

Choose your curve.

Selectable slat curvature. Choose straight to easily slide material onto the table, or pick Half Arc or Full Arc to support small parts and lighter material.

Straight slats photo Curved slats photo

Y-Beams. Strong and Precise.

All steel construction begins with a 4" x 3" x 1/4" wall box tube weldment. Precision machining guarantees parallelism of the V-Groove supporting the alloy steel rail and the 3/4" face width gear rack.

Heavy Duty Air Table

Robust.

Heavy steel construction supports up to 2" thick material. Watch Bob explain the details in this video.

Redesigned Table Interior.

Sloping sides guide cut parts and debris to the center. The baffle design forces air flow around a 180 degree corner before exiting, reducing the amount of debris that can enter air handling ducting. Additional clearance from the slats to the table interior increases the machine compatibility to a 400A plasma unit.

Air Table Sloping Interior

Multiple Air Handling Connections.

There is much more flexibility in connecting an air handler. With a maximum of two (4' x 4' table) to six (5' x 10') connection points for 6" duct flanges.

Air Handler Connections

Easier Cleaning.

Dual end doors allow removing fallen cut parts and debris easily. Hang the door on the catches and simply rake through the machine.

Air Tunnel Closed Air Tunnel Open

Optional Rolling Drawers.

Add on the optional rolling drawers to make cleaning and part retrieval even easier. Manufactured from heavy gauge steel with rollers and bronze bushings, even the heaviest loads roll out easily.

Optional Drawer In Optional Drawer Out

Stainless Steel Water Table

Tig Welded Stainless Steel.

The optional stainless steel water table has all seams TIG welded and leak tested. It can take up to eight hours to manufacture a large 5'x10' table.

Water Table TIG

Stainless Wetted Components.

Stainless steel slat leveling components, and submerged fasteners substantially increase longevity.

Stainless Steel Hardware

Gantry from the Bottom Up

Y Carriages - Feature rich construction.

An all steel weldment is precision machined to ensure perpendicularity. Twin bearing blocks on 20mm rods ensure proper pinion gear to gear rack engagement.

Y Carriage overview

Robust against dirt.

Rollers use 8900lb capacity sealed dual-row radial ball bearings to carry their share of the 300lb gantry. Intelligent roller profile contacts the rails near the edges rather than the center where dust collects, offering a drastic reduction in maintenance compared to an uncovered linear guide in a dirty environment.

The X and Z Axes

X Carriage.

Precision machining and grinding are combined to create a flexible X-Axis Carriage. It utilizes quad profiled roller bearings for alignment, and the same quality dual 20mm ground rods with block bearings to engage the pinion gear to the gear rack. Round rails reduce maintenance compared to an uncovered linear guide in a dirty environment without sacrificing precision.

X carriage iso

Universal. Ready for plasma.

The face plate of the X-Axis Carriage is universal to accept many types of tools. By default, it is configured with two magnetic docking stations, and a Z-Axis unit plasma ready.

X carriage plate photo

Z Axis - Protection built in.

The Z-Axis rides on a 25mm linear guide behind protective covers. It includes magnetic torch break-away with automated sensing, and dual probing methods: ohmic contact, and floating head for when electrical contact cannot be sensed.

Z axis switch

Brushless servo motors. Everywhere.

All axes are driven using high quality brushless servo motors to get the speed we desire: 1000+ I.P.M. rapids. Application specific motor power supplies keep the machine running all day.

Motor photo

Hardened machine control.

Custom robust control electronics are reinforced, and isolated to protect sensitive circuits from damaging currents. Since we build it, obsolescence isn't a problem.

Control photo

Automatic Torch Height Control.

Yes, it's included. The custom ATHC is capable of measuring a divided feedback voltage provided by the most popular plasma power units.

User Interface Computer.

Don't worry about sourcing or picking a computer that is compatible with the MAD series. We've already included the PC for the user interface.

Constantly improving Machine Control Interface.

The latest version of our control software keeps improving. Easy to operate, easy to select cut settings, and easy to restart. The software automatically updates itself for bug fixes and select feature sets if connected to the internet. No subscription required, included for free.
