I've removed powdercoating with carburetor cleaner. Sprayed it on...came right off.

Still using up scrap. This one was a pain. Took 5-6 hours to resize/correct individual pieces and assemble. We'd sure go in the hole on this one if we were to sell it.

The file came from MakeCNC. It's the best file we've gotten from them. And the steel is 12g P&O.

We've finally got around to using up some scrap. This one's about 24" tall. It's going to be powdercoated a satin clear.

The guy that does my powdercoating did the same thing and when I walked in his shop one day I was amazed at how bright it was. It seemed as bright as being outside on a sunny day.

Re: Adhesive backed standoffs?

I have used that....good stuff. Are you aware of any product that has the ability of bonding painted/powdercoated surfaces together? I normally clean off spots to bare metal for bonding but occasionally have a spot or two that isn't practical to do that.

Thanks.

Re: Adhesive backed standoffs?

So Larry.......having worked in aerospace, what would be your choice of glue that is available to consumers? I've used, among other things, 3M automotive epoxy but that gets pretty expensive.

I built my portable sandblaster from a 100lb propane tank. I cut the bottom out, put a fill hole in the center, inverted it and welded the bottom back in. Been using it for 30+ years.

Re: What steel for knife blank?

We have a customer that brings in big circular saw blades and BIG band saw blades from a sawmill. He draws out the hardness by heating, makes the knives and reheats them hardening them again. And he sure makes some nice ones.

Re: Still going like hotcakes...

Off hand I can't tell you. I found the "Baby Rockstar Sparkle" on the Prismacolor website and it lists the black to be used as the base. We've used the sparkle on several different colors but it just doesn't show up as good as it does on black.

Re: large self closing hooks

I have no intentions of making any but just curious. There's a local fab shop that builds guard towers and they have a considerable amount of AR500 scrap left over so I'd think that'd be pretty reasonable. In the past I've bought AR400 from them at a good price.

Re: Surface finishing tool

Dennis, Since you've used these, I'll pick your brain. Today we cut a large sign out of 12g hot roll. It was too big for the blast cabinet so I thought about a burnisher to remove the mill scale. Will cleaning around and between the letters eat up a stripping or conditioning wheel pretty quick? Or w...

Rick,
I "think" Prismatic Powders has it. A few weeks ago I was looking at a number of powder suppliers when I ran across it. I'll look and see if I can find it again.

Re: How do you prep prior to powdercoating?

I use a FLAT flap wheel to remove the dross which is minimal, then beadblast. Then it's ready to powdercoat.
