Re: CandCNC Control Box

I have an older system (PlazPak 4+) that we completely disconnect when not cutting. Once computers are shut down, we de-energize a two pole relay and ALL power breaks from all elements of the table. This includes a oxy/fuel console, I/O control box, CandCnc controller, computer, air solenoids, air c...

Aluminum and SS brushing attachment

Here is a Scotch brite wheel attachment I made for brushing SS and aluminum. I have used it a few times on large signs and it works great. The wheel is a floor "cut and polish" type in a "7A" grit, I would say it is a medium scotch brite or maybe a 600-800 grit. I moved the locat...

Freeze your thc and slow ipm by 50 to 75%. You can get a 32nd easy, if your pinions are tight and motion is good, you can repeat it every time once your kerf is set.

Cheers!

We rarely do art stuff anymore. It has shifted to industrial stuff and thicker material as we go along. We have cut 5", not often but once in a while. Here is some 3" T1

Oxy/fuel of course

Re: Torch Dragging

Try to reset your torch in the holder, either go up or down and get away from the "loose" spot on the slide. During the move it may have been stressed and now it shows up more. Or, maybe someone had already done that and it got moved back to the original location. We did mostly 1/2 with ou...

Re: Local welding shop SUCKS!

About six months ago, our local Airgas put us in a big bind. We had a contract with them to keep our specific hard wire in stock and we would purchase 500lbs a week. They ran us out about a year ago and I had to use some chinese wire (nasty stuff, hard to feed) until the next pallet came in. At that...

Re: Metal choice

Are you saying you can get a sheet of 4x8x.5 AR400 for $590? That is a good deal. I am paying $1.19 lb for 400 and 500. Usually T-1 is less. I would go for the 400 at that price. Mild over here is going for $.70 lb.

Re: Metal choice

T-1 is a structural steel used in bridges mostly. It has a higher tensile strength over A36 and AR400, but AR400 has enough tensile to not bend as easily as A36 (mild). AR400 is formable and anneal-able if needed but will last about 8 times longer than A36 in the dirt, abrasion wise. If you structur...

Re: Cutting round holes

Yes, the smaller the hole the higher the specific height. This is because of being closer to the pierce crater and resulting booger. A water based anti-spatter helps too, it sheds the pierce booger and lets the torch track better and not stutter on the top side dross. Pierce from dead center of the ...

Re: Cutting round holes

The leads are an important part of it, almost as important as your machines motion. But you also can gain from locking (freezing?) the thc and slowing the ipm down to around 60% of the normal F (feed) speed. Experiment with different speeds on different size holes. Attached is a 1/2" piece with...

Re: How to make text cut-able?

We got it as a bundle with we-cim, I did not recall the cost being that high! The basic premise of it is adding that few extra lines in the right (or close to right) spot for you. It can be done manually, but like you said it takes time. It has a weld tool that we use often too, but it's big feature...

Re: Wall Train, as arty as I can get!

Thanks Guys! The lights are a C-4 socket, I believe you can get LEDs for that socket, they do require 110vac though. Here is a link to the sockets: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130645047099?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 If you look close, you can see the toggle switch for on and ...

Re: How to make text cut-able?

We use CuttingShop to deal with text dropouts. It has a "bridge" tool that will put a link to the part needing the gap. It may not always line it up like you want but it does place a point at the intersections that allows you to drag the "bridge" around to were you like it.

Wall Train, as arty as I can get!

Here is a fun project I just did for my son's room. It just got a new blue paint job so I thought some new art would be nice too. The lenses are vintage railroad lantern lights from ebay. The light sockets are the four watt night light sockets, also ebay. Cut it from 18ga cr. Used a bunch of bracket...

Re: puller homemade accessory

Oh ya, very clever. When i was a wee boy, we used those on an OTC track link pin pusher. It was made to go around a two inch shaft, we could put 100 tons of pressure on it, then start beating it with a hammer to shock it loose.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Fine cut nozzle?

To me, that electrode looks like it is hardly broke in. Looks like clean air too. Run that puppy until it spits out the hafnium. Most common ratio is about two nozzles to one electrode. In my case I can get three to one, but that is because of bad pierces nicking the nozzle usually.
