Re: Blue Patina on Steel

Some of my customers are using BLUE HALO™, or FLAME F/X™ Patinas, as well as the COBALT BLUE Solvent Dye. TORCH F/X™ Patina Over COPPER F/X™, also produces a vivid blue, that is somewhat lighter in intensity than FLAME F/X™. The absolute simplest way to decide which Blue you want is to practice on s...

Re: Topcoat time...

Hi, Here's what I've found, although I've never owned my own oven: Clear Powder-Coating over the Patinas and Dyes is Fine, if Done Properly. Some of the lighter colored patinas, like COPPER F/X™ will sometimes change to a darker hue, usually a light greenish-gold, but in general, no problem with pow...

Re: Rusted steel after clear coat!! HELP!!

@countrylane The Acid Bath mentioned is used to remove mill scale, for those of us using HR steel. It is not needed for P&O or CR Steel. The bath also removes dross, when the pieces are left in for 6-8 hrs. or longer, depending on the strength/weakness of the Acid Bath & how minimal or exten...

Great Answer Above: Unread post by littlefatbuddy » Sat Jun 25, 2016 6:26 pm "I would use Copper FX from SteelFX and have the metal a little "distressed" and wait a bit longer before rinsing. I use cold rolled as well." (from Bill)...RUST F/X™ is also a good choice, but the real ...

Re: Tiny bubbles

It's 'Solvent Pop'...Nothing to do with the patina or dye ingredients or rinsing. Just fyi...The Acid Content of Most Water-Based Steel Patinas is less than 1%. Some of the patinas are 0% Acid. When shooting 2-Part Clear, I use 2 wet coats, about 10-12 mins. apart. If I get in a hurry on the timing,...

Bill; Thank's for your input and makes sense, But if used would it identify the hidden rust with the black spots to clean better? just playing devils advocate, trying ways to see things we can't see. Chris Hi Chris, Maybe. I haven't found it necessary to do anything like that, but it's worth a try....

Re: Rusted steel after clear coat!! HELP!!

Rust Converter Products will Hydrolyze and Convert Oxides to Phosphates, so they will "convert" Iron Oxide (Rust) to Iron Phosphate, which is Black in color. If the Rust is Heavy, Flaky & Generally "Gnarly", the Converter will turn most of the exposed rust black, then it will...

Re: Rusted steel after clear coat!! HELP!!

For those of you who live & work in states with high humidity, you can stage your polished steel pieces & not worry about rust for months by using VCI paper. I have it in 1' squares on my site if you'd like to learn more about it. 1 sq. ft. will protect up to 3 sq. ft. of steel. Just lay it ...

Re: Racking my brain with patina. School me start to finish

In the pictures it looks like you still have some mill scale. I can't get Bills patinas here in Oz but the ones I've used don't work too well unless the mill scale is removed. They show the symptoms you are mentioning, dark, dull, blotchy, uneven unless all the metal is clean and shiny. Murray G'da...

Re: SteelF-x Gun blue? Anyone here use it?

GUN BLUE F/X™ is a very close cousin to Black. It's like any other cold bluing solution (it does contain selenium compounds, but not selenium dioxide),and like the little bottles of Gun Bluing for fixing scratches or rubbed spots on a firearm, requires several wet, rinse, reapply cycles to get the ...

Re: Iwata NEO Series Airbrush

I recently stepped up with airbrushing and the dyes. I'm kinda disappointed to be honest. I was expecting this awesome iridescent colored metal results, instead I got a chalky film with very little "pop" of shine from the metal. I'd love to see some pictures of your results and the mix ra...

Muriatic Acid can be sprayed on pieces that are too large for a tub. There's a video on that at: https://youtu.be/0FMBZsyZAnE?list=PL8A9 ... qxz11yLB1x

Camo-Dip Without a Tank!
