I would think he means the electro/mechanical action of the Z drive as in motor speed, drive method and reduction ratio

Re: My homemade plate roller

Nice job and thanks for the file, I will have to make one for myself.
I made years ago, that also doubled as a bead roller and I did some ally tin work for a mates race car.
I love homemade tools :)

Re: Best budget minded THC for thin corrugated steel?

Mikeysp the Neuron is definitely not your cheapest option but seeing that you can contact the designer of the Neuron, Andrew to answer your questions in detail must tell you something at least. How does that compare with a Proma for example From what I understand the Lite version doesn't rely on Mac...

Re: Best budget minded THC for thin corrugated steel?

Thank you Dingo. Do you operate with Mach? UCCNC? How responsive and quick is the Simplicity to changing height at speed on warped thin steel? I am using Mach3 on a laptop with an Ethernet Smoothstepper which has been faultless so far but I am still on the learning curve of using my machine. I deci...

Re: Best budget minded THC for thin corrugated steel?

I recently got a Neuron Simplicity and so far it has been good and Andrew's service and help in setting it up were invaluable, no forums just one on one sessions via Skype in my case until we had it working perfectly, and that alone makes the price difference worth the extra. As they say you get wha...

Re: First Cut

One of the problems is probably moisture related. One day it is 110 degrees and the next day it's tropical humidity and I live close to the ocean and that is something that I have been looking at adding to the system. The Hypertherm was sometimes throwing out the orange front panel light indicator l...

Re: First Cut

I'm still green as grass with SheetCam and I'm having a steep learning curve with SheetCam and the Neuron Simplicity THC I have been plasma cutting for about a week and a half in total. I tried to cut this out today and had a ton of problems trying to cut the border. It would start the cut then it w...

B&WSeaview - 2Copy.JPG I did this one today even though the temperature out in my shed was 45 degrees C or 113 in F I did a nameplate for my house and the GSD dog that I cut out earlier will be tacked on to the top of the nameplate and painted black. I'm still making lots of mistakes but le...

Re: First Cut

Thanks. I am learning slowly but there are so many variables and it's easy to get caught out and make a critical error especially when you have been doing it for about a week in total.

First Cut

I only got my DIY table going in the last few days and this is my first successful test cut . It's a basic 5'x5' with a Hypertherm Powermax 30, and a Neuron Simplicity THC The part is about 8" x 6" cut from 1.6 mm steel sheet and turned out OK by my standards and will hopefully get better ...

Re: Alive at last

All good mate. I have nothing to tell anyone about plasma cnc 's as it's my first foray into plasma but I have built three cnc routers and also had an large ebay CO2 laser engraver cutter. Everyone of them has been a learning experience trying to get to competent in the use of the machines and vario...

So why be so harsh on an excited newbie. experts start from the bottom as well old mate.

Alive at last

After a lot of head scratching and thanks to Andrew Shmatok's help, time and patience we finally have my DIY 5'x5' CNC plasma cutter working correctly, and more importantly Andrew's Torch Height Controller, the Neuron Simplicity is able to control the cutting operations. Andrew Shmatok is the design...

Re: Laser Question

Stay away from the real cheap Chinese Ebay desktop lasers, they are crap. I had a larger 50W CO2 that was OK but not great and it all depends on your budget and intended use. You will need something like Corel Draw for the design side it and the laser's control software takes over from there but it ...

Re: Plasma software with Mach3

That is pretty much what I understood as Mach3 is the cnc control software and the CAD programs like you say just generate the .tap files for Mach3. So from that SheetCam is more of a tweaking program for plasma output, as in lead in and lead out and similar things ? all of which I still have to bec...

Plasma software with Mach3

This is no doubt a simple and dumb question from a newbie. I have just got my home built plasma table up and working basically and what I'm unsure of is do I have to use Sheetcam with Mach3 or will Mach3 do a similar job. I see that a lot of people use Sheetcam with a Mach3 postprocessor which I ass...

The cost of real ballscrews off Ebay is not that much, but the improvement is massive, so just do it.

Re: cnc routing

Done all of it. CNC Routing relies a lot on having a nice rigid machine with good components and zero backlash.
I used Corel Draw for design a lot .
Probably CNC zone would be be good start or one of the many Woodworker Forums, they all have CNC sections, just start googling

Re: Ethernet Motion Controller and CNC Plasmas

Hi, I have been in contact with the maker of the Neuron THC and he has been very helpful and has told me exactly how to interface my Hypertherm Powermax 30 XP to his Simplicity Standalone THC. He strongly recommends that I use the Warp 9 ESS and stick with Mach3 as he has his THC's set for use with ...

I really appreciate all the input guys but I am getting more frustrated by the minute and don't know which way to turn with budget, and here is another opinion from a help me post that I placed on the Warp9 Forum. "Quote: Yes it works, I have been using ESS on a Dell Inspirion 2020 for producti...
