Exhaust and Oil spray

I have been doing some test with my floating head scribe and all is well. One observation though. I am using a 5way 2 position solenoid and have noticed that when the CNC shuts off the the exhaust port lets loose and discharges the pen very fast. This creates a fog of oil that while its does not see...

Re: Looking for slider mechanism for Air Scribe.

Ok, one thing I found was that the air solenoid used is crucial in the engraver firing constantly. I started with a smaller 12v activated unit and while it worked ok, I would still get misfires. It has a couple of issues. 1. It does not allow enough air volume to hit the tool all at once. 2. It had ...

Re: Looking for slider mechanism for Air Scribe.

I was thinking of building my own using a couple different methods. A slide that moves down has other advantages as well. The CP9361 does not always start when set to a setting less than 4. A light tap on the tip will always start it. By activating a slide, the scribe will always start when the tip ...

Looking for slider mechanism for Air Scribe.

I got my air scribe working pretty good. I have it connected to a small educational CNC that I wrote up for Servo Magazine. Its just got a simple tool mount. See it here: https://youtu.be/9aP2tdZBWEM Now I want to move it to one of my larger machines and am looking for a Air Slide Mechanism. Just so...

Re: Air Scribe questions

Amazon took the unit back and sent me a new one immediately. Got it today. Works much better. Starts every time when set to 4 or above. More important the adjustments are smooth and consistent.

Now I just need to find a slider mech. I will be posting this on a new topic.

Re: Air Scribe questions

There is probably something inside the main mechanics. since I read that most people have good success with this unit, I will exchange it for another and try again.

Re: Air Scribe questions

Does not help Besides the unit has other problems. The stroke adjuster is not consistent. If I set the stroke to 3 and then run the unit for a few minutes the stroke drops off changing every thing. Its not my air so it must be the unit. Since it was purchased from Amazon, I decided to return it. Aft...

Re: Air Scribe questions

I did that. I only took it apart to look at the tip. Should I tear it down completely? I got it from Amazon so I can still return it if its faulty.

It looks like to tear it down completely, I remove the little pin inside the main cylinder. Is that a place to start.

Air Scribe questions

I just got a CP 9361 Air Scribe for Christmas. I mounted it to one of my smaller CNC machines to check it out. I'm running exactly 90 PSI into the unit and it has a hard starting on its own. The instructions say to set the dial to mid way and jar the tool if needed. In my case that's about 90% of th...

Same here only on this site. I just dont post as much any more as its a real pain. I will login, do a post, then it forgets I am logged in and most of the time I loose all the text in the post and have to do it again. I now just copy the post to my clip board just in case I have to do it again. The ...

Re: Router attachment

I have a small table I made that's only 21" x 35". Its two pieces of MDF and some 1x3 Aluminum Tslot. I just C clamped it to one of my larger DIY plasma tables I had at the time. Worked ok for general porpose routing, but I prefer an aligned and surfaced table that has front and side fence...

Re: Router attachment

I would be interested in the T-slot you are using. On my router tables I use 8020 1030. The 1030 is a little overkill as it has T-slots on both sides, but this allows me to flip a single piece if I mill through my waster board. (happens more than I like) I have also used Wall slot, which is a MDF pr...

Re: Router attachment

I have designed and built several CNC Routers. I even have a couple books out on them. Just about any CNC machine can mill aluminum as long as: It has very littl backlash You can clear the chips You can keep the bit lubricated You can hold your stock firmly Since most plasma CNC machines are not des...

Re: grub screw issues

So far so good, I gave the blue Locktite about 24 hours to set and been working good for about 5 days. I think the problem arises from the fact that the pinion only has about 1/8" of threads. Seems like a bad design for a grub screw to hold something that is obviously goin

Re: CNC Table freezing when Pilot Arc initiates?

If the machine uses a HF start, then the answer is yes. Your machine/computer/controller needs to be shielded and properly grounded. In addion you will need some farrite noise suppressors on your PC cables. Blowback pilot arc are much easier to use. Good machine and PC grounding tends to work withou...

Re: Question on suitability of plasma for saw disk arbor hole

First, I think if you have enough blades to practice on you can probably get it dialed in. That said an arbor hole needs to be machined. You will never get it close enough to stop wobble. While the CNC plasma has its own set of issues when cutting things like this, even a drill press could be proble...

Re: grub screw issues

The drive reducers are working really well. Its only the X-axis (Non Gantry) drive thats giving me problems. 20161027_003313.jpg Both the grub screw and the main reduction pulley failed. I cleaned and re-applied 242 and added a nut shown here: 20161027_003244.jpg On the pulley I had only 222, so I r...

Re: grub screw issues

I thought of that. I dont have the depth. When building the reducers it has been a challenge to source the parts. I would have preferred a pinion with a 1/4" bore. This would allow for more byte of the grub or even two grubs. These are 14-1/2 Pressure Angle to match the racks. I wanted to go wi...

grub screw issues

I finished my second version of my R&P drive reducers and they work great. The only issue I have is that I cant keep the grub screws on the pinions tight. After about 2 hours of breakin they seem to break free. I have tried locktite 222 (purple) HF 42 (Blue) and locktite 242 (blue) I clean with ...

Building my own drive reducer

I have been doing a new design for a rack and pinion drive reducer. I have completed my first working prototype and its been a success. _MG_4616.jpg I need a couple parts to complete the X-axis before I can start another line testing. Re: SheetCam with a CNC Router

I do like they way in SheetCam, I can just plop a tab down directly on the drawing. In VCarve, I have to transverse several menus to get down to the actual tabs. I do a lot of CAM design, and thus, use a lot of tabs. Even on my milling machines, I use tabs. Now if you added the ability to move the t...

Re: SheetCam with a CNC Router

I have not found a way to move holding tabs once they have been added. Im having to delete them then add new ones. This is a real pain and makes adjustments tedious. Am I missing something?
