Re: Rust finish and clearcoat

I went to the powder coater today and I am going with a rust colored power coat, which turns out is the exact color of the dog. The customer loves the color so all is good.

Thanks for all the input.

Rust finish and clearcoat

I am working on a 8' x 6' ranch type entry sign for a property in Georgia. Most of it will be powder coated but there is a life size dog and a couple smaller items made of 11 gauge hot rolled steel that the client wants rusted. I was thinking about rusting and then auto clearcoat. Now I am wondering...

Delusional Designs CNC Support

I bought my Delusional Design CNC table last March after a member here advised me to check them out. I have been happy with the table and George, the owner, has been very helpful. After a couple of months of not cutting we went to cut this morning and nothing happened. I called George and left him a...

Re: The Marine Eagle

This one was a confidence builder. I was at first a little intimidated by this project.

And the only place I could store it was on my table, so it sort of took over my shop.

The Marine Eagle

We just finished this 48"x48" Marine Eagle, Globe and Anchor for a customer. He loved it and we had blast making it. Painted steel over stainless.

If I had been a Marine I would have kept it

Re: Do I need a Compressed Air dryer ?

Ok, so I got another HF compressed air dryer and hooked it up and this time I used a pressure regular and keeping it at around 115. So far so good. Do you keep it on all the time or just when using air? Also, should it be cycling. Ran it for a few hours , idling, and it never cycled off? Thanks, Mark

Re: Steel Prices

Wow, you guys are getting some good prices. I am paying about $48 for 14 gauge 4x8,cut in half, for hot rolled steel here in Ft. Lauderdale.

What's the advantage to cold rolled?

Rounded, not flat

Greetings, I have had several requests for rounded objects such as various fish. My only thought is maybe heat the steel and try to bend it over a pipe or something. Right now I have a request for a tarpon fish with the body rounded so it doesn't sit flat on the wall. Any guidance will be appreciate...

Re: Do I need a Compressed Air dryer ?

I have a pressure gauge at the inlet to my PM45 and I am careful to keep the pressure below 120. Do you really think 10 psi could blow out a line. I suspected poorly soldered connections.

I was hoping that maybe there was a relief valve to prevent over pressurization that was activated and reset.

Re: Do I need a Compressed Air dryer ?

Hey Rick. My compressor puts out around 150 psi and I didn't regulate it down. I just checked the manual and it states max operating pressure is 140 psi. But the air started streaming out the moment I hooked up the air supply. I can't imagine that 10 psi over the operating pressure would cause it to...

Tricks for cutting Diamond plate

Someone asked if I could cut aluminum diamond plate on my CNC and Powermax 45. I have never done it so I took some drop and started playing around. The results were not pretty. I set my tool to 1/8 inch aluminum and tried both face up and face down. Not only were the cuts ugly and incomplete but my ...

Re: Do I need a Compressed Air dryer ?

So this week my 3rd Harbor Freight compressed air dryer arrived. I installed it and sure enough, another internal air leak. I thought I would just repair it but it is leaking from a cluster of tubes coming together and I can't see the leak. I know it is HF and all but one would think at least one of...

Re: Steel on stainless

Thanks. I usually use a nut between layers but customer does not want the space between layers. I think I will put SS mounting bolts through both layers as suggested.

Do you think I will have any issues with the steel and stainless separated only by layers of paint?

I am fairly sure I have a job similar to the project below. It will be 4x4 with painted 14 gauge steel over 14 gauge stainless steel. I have a few questions I need help with please. If I prime, paint and clear coat the back as well as the front, will there be any problems with corrosion from the dis...

New Fire Chief

My friend just got promoted to the fire chief of our town. She is the first woman fire chief in the town history. Her husband is the fire chief for the county to our south. I thought a gift for her office was in order.

I have never had much luck with spray cans if the object took more than a few passes. I always seemed to get runs.

Other than spray cans, is automotive paint the way to go?
