Re: Handling Heavy Plates of Steel

I bought a couple of magnetic lifters, seems to also help slide full sheets on and off the table. When I bring home sheets in my truck I can slap one on top put a short choker on it and pull them off onto my roll around cart.

Re: Which 3M VHB/UHB do I want for layering?

I have several rolls of 5952 VHB, I have some others but not sure the all the numbers. The 5952 is my go to for everything, even used this to attach my gear racks to my aluminum rail for my drives. I just hung a bunch of diamond plate aluminum sheets on counters with it and rock solid.

Re: PRICE FOR BULK LETTERS?

What thickness are you cutting? I did a lot of numbers and letters, 4 inch in several fonts, 14ga with no cleanup for $ 1.75 each. It was easy money, I even used some scrap I had laying around. I did not get crazy and pierced in the cut and still cam out good with fine cut consumables. If I was cutt...

Re: Not impressed with exhaust kit

Not sure what fan you originally bought but the 12" Maxfan with rigid 12" duct works really well also. I think the fan was just under $300 and I spent another $150 or so on duct and some aluminum tape. The downdraft chamber took some modifications from my original design and I learned a li...

It is almost hard to mess up clear coat with those guns! It always comes out looking like glass for me also. Let's hope they don't change the design and jack it up. Glad you like it.

Re: Frying start cartridges on cutmaster 101

You might try changing out your shield cup to a new one. I have had some start cartridge problems in the past, I even talked to ESAB about it at Fabtech. When I found out this was not a common thing I checked some of my consumables and found a warped shield cup, probably because I use the crap out t...

Re: Good HVLP Spray Gun for Clear Coat

I sometimes spray small parts or many at once, small batches not a problem. You will actually save time and get a better results using a gun even with cleanup duties. I just use a cheap gun cleaner and buy in gallon containers, it does not take much to run some through the gun, then put fresh in and...

Re: Good HVLP Spray Gun for Clear Coat

I would think the smaller gun is just as good as its big brother. I can't give you any info on that one since I don't own it. I am sold on that line of guns though. If I was to buy a small touch up gun that's the one I would buy first.

Re: Good HVLP Spray Gun for Clear Coat

Get a Graco Sharpe Finex FX3000 1.3 tip from Amazon, best paint gun on the market for the money. Makes clear coat look like glass. I have several of these in various tip sizes and shoot industrial paint also. I have pretty much thrown out all the other paint guns I have. You won't be disappointed.

Re: Help! Marking....Good and Bad

I wish I had a process for pneumatic marking. I was going to purchase a CP marker and try to build something but time to do that and reinventing the wheel just takes a lot of time. The plasma option just seems easy if I can get it going. Still something I want long term, I have an in on some jobs th...

Re: Help! Marking....Good and Bad

Jim I was getting some great results based on other marking pictures I have seen, overall I would say better than just decent. I was running in gouge mode, 25 amps, about .10 standoff, and 160 IPM, I tried so many differnt things but this is close. I will reduce air pressure out of the cylinder, I d...

Help! Marking....Good and Bad

Let me say thanks to Hypertherm for the marking consumables I got at FABTECH. But now I have emptied a 200 bottle of argon and lost an entire evening trying to make this work. I was super excited when my first letter looked perfect, then it got worse from there, misfire, misfire, cut, 0-30 code and ...

Re: patinas and rust

I have tried lots of clears, the MS-52 by Matrix is pretty forgiving. I am not sure why the rust would form on your edges other than maybe the clear is having a hard time staying on the edge and thinning out? I actually get a pretty decent edge coat and the only thing I can think of is that with a l...

Re: patinas and rust

Rick, do you reduce it at all or ever get any solvent popping with the quick cure on a heavy coat? I usually reduce the medium solids 10% and have been using Matrix, I have been getting that in gallons for about $70.00.

Re: patinas and rust

A decent medium solid clear coat is what you want shot out of a HVlP gun with 1.3 mm tip. I use a Sharpe/Graco 3000 and run the air at 50 inlet psi with a large fan adjustment. Coat the back with one good coat and let it flash making sure you have full coverage, let it dry awhile then use something ...

That sounds about the same as mine, just a quick purge every couple of minutes. I may decrease the interval to about 5 in the future.

Re: Still going like hotcakes...

Rick, That is exactly what I have done, I just tack weld them on the back. When I cut them just add the second letters over to the side using any drop material I can. Most people are eager to pay the extra money for that look. It also makes it easy to rub the pearl on the letters before clear coat. ...
