Re: NGEN Star Lab evolution

I just bought a StarLab and I couldn't be happier. I have always built all my tables but with my work schedule it wouldn't work out. This is one top notch machine and the build quality is second to none! Only thing I need to figure out now is to marry Linux to windows for my network. It's easy. Goo...

Re: DXF File/Folder Organization?

Dear lord, I'm in for info here too. I'm working on this as well. I'm pretty good with organizing stuff I've drawn, or downloaded individually. It's the sets that really get me. I've got all the CNCDXF stuff, SignTorch stuff, and a couple other sets. I'm trying to decide if I leave those in "ma...

Re: I have a few questions on general CNC plasma operations

1) You could lower your VAD %. Default is 85%. Lower % decreases VAD "sensitivity"; THC stays on, torch might dive at corners. Increasing % increases VAD "sensitivity"; less time THC is active, but also ensures torch won't dive. I'm surprised, though. Those teeth (at 2.5") s...

Re: ELIMINATING NO-OFFSET HOLES

On 16ga, I pierce and cut at cut height. That may help some as well by removing the dwell time, while it comes down from .15 to .06.

Re: Delusional Designs: CAUTION

Matt's (Starlab/Bulltear) customer support was one thing that pushed me to his machines. At the time of purchase (August 15), I couldn't find a complaint about him. On the internet, that's saying a lot (or so I thought). I then read about some poor soul's HORRIBLE situation with Burntables. The idea...

Re: Using finecuts without increased pierce heightt

Up through (and including) 14ga, my cut height and pierce height is the same. I don't have a pierce delay for 16ga and thinner. Jim Colt recommends .06 cut height up through 16ga, and .075 cut height from there to 1/8".

Long story short, for your material thicknesses, you should be fine.

Re: 3/16 vs fine cut

I've never seen Jim Colt recommend fine cuts over 10ga (1/8"). I have seen other people cut thicker on occasion. It's probably not that it can't be done, as much as there's a significant tradeoff in consumable lifespan, or something like that.

Re: Favorite program for editing DXF files?

Coreldraw x6 or x7 is decent. I got mine for $60 I really think torchmate cad is my favorite. Lite was around $250 If they still sell it. Full (with tracing and nesting) is $850ish Plus it does toolpaths too so no need for another software like sheetcam. I love my flashcut software but it won't wor...

Re: Tips or tricks to using Finecut consumables?

I've found that running the finecuts at 10% below book speed (with accordingly adjusted voltages), at .06 cut height (16ga and thinner) or .075 cut height (thicker than 16ga, up to 10ga) gives great results. I set pierce height at .001" higher than cut height up through 14ga. Thicker than 14ga,...

Re: Hitch covers

Question on the diagonal plate. Does the plate slide back and forth horizontal in the receiver since it is not a tube. Seems like there would be a lot of slop. Or maybe I do not under stand the plate fully how it slides in. If it's at a 45 angle, it would be wedged against the inside corners of the...

Re: Slowing down for holes

Put the holes in their own layer. Set the feedrate for that layer to your chosen slowdown rate (I usually use 50% of the regular feed rate). If you don't want to use THC (you usually don't on small holes), set the "min dist before THC) to hole to diameter x 3.2, or radius x 6.3, + your lead in/...

Re: Achievable edge taper accuracy for industrial type parts

With everything cutting correctly (consumables in good shape, etc), I just plan on 3 degree taper. Jim states that 1.5-2 degrees is possible, so 3 gives me some "wiggle room". You can take 3 degree taper and your material thickness, and get an idea of the distance. Just figure the triangle...

Re: Cut Rules and DTHC Settings for Detailed Cut-outs

I too think it would be helpful if there were a way to deactivate THC when crossing over previously cut (or partially cut) kerfs. I'm not sure if that would be on the Sheetcam side or CommandCNC side. I asked the question in the CandCNC forum, and Tom mentioned that crossing a previously cut kerf is...

How do you attach individually cut letters?

Just finished up this sign for a family member. He's actually giving it as a gift. It's one of the first things I've done with individual positive-space letters. I attached them using VHB, and it took FOREVER to do. I put VHB on the back of the letters, and cut out a paper "template" on my...

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting less than stellar results on 14ga with the finecuts- I've got my settings for standard consumables pretty well dialed in, and every time I think "let's give the finecuts another try", I'm sorely disappointed (lack of cut through being the biggest issu...

Re: How would you handle the grille on this truck?

I'm using your idea, and I've simplified it somewhat (holes around grille/LED light). I had planned on using the same sides/base as the Jeep firepits, in order to decrease the unique parts needed in the fire pits. Without a bit of creativity, though, I'll have to make new sideplates. The top tabs on...

According to the folks at CandCNC, when mine was showing 224/226/whatever volts, that's a sign of an open circuit with NO input. Ie, if the plasma is not hooked to the PWM, and the PWM is hooked to the DTHCIV card, the display will be 2xx volts. Have you hooked it up to the plasma, without firing th...
