Re: Cutting metal Mesh

I've cut .25 perf plate. It was 16 gauge stainless. Set your PM 85 for interrupted cutting and follow book specs. I used a small piece of scrap if the pierce was directly over a hole.

Re: 1.25" carbon with Powermax 85

I did use an edge start. I adjusted the pierce point in sheetcam without a lead in. I then zeroed the torch over the area that I wanted to start at. I just used book specs for the cut. If you have sharp corners I think it would be best to loop them.

1.25" carbon with Powermax 85

I finally cut some 1.25 with my 85. I was a little worried beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Re: My New Hypertherm 45 XP

I'm pretty sure they are different. It uses a duramax torch and can use the same torches as the 65 and 85.

Re: My New Hypertherm 45 XP

Good to hear. I ordered a 45 XP yesterday to use for handheld cutting. My 85 has been perfect for 2 years.

Thanks for the flag file. I cut one and donated it to a business that sent it to the Dallas PD as a tribute. It went somewhat viral today.

Re: Tips for cutting 0.25" 16 gauge SS perf plate

FWIW, I cut the perf plate today using 45 amp book specs with THC. Fine cut book specs would not work at all. I called Hypertherm, and James suggested 45 amp shielded. Both attempts with fine cut failed to keep an arc even with the expanded metal setting selected. I had too much elevation change acr...

Tips for cutting 0.25" 16 gauge SS perf plate

I have a job coming up that will require cutting some 16 gauge 304 stainless perforated plate (.25 perf). The customer is supplying the material so I really don't want to screw anything up. I have never cut expanding metal or perf plate before, but I would think that THC should be off and adjust the...

Dan,

Sorry I haven't called yet. I've been covered up trying to get things out of the door. I'll try tomorrow.

No earth ground on mine, btw. I need to hook one up.

Re: What's happening to my height control?

Dan, I have the older version (edit....I may have the newer version...my settings page in Mach 3 says "DTHC IV mach thc do not use! All DTHC IV parameters now done in cut profile or via gcode"). Tip saver is kicking in according to the graphic in Mach3. The tip saver light will turn on if ...

What's happening to my height control?

I have a LDR table with height control. I think I may have some settings off or something. When I am cutting something thin and wavy the torch will track up and down to a certain point. If the torch goes too high the tip saver light will illuminate, and the vertical motion will stop. The problem is ...

DXF to SVG converter

I have used a free cloud program available with Google Drive to do some dxf to svg conversions. It is called Cloundconvert. It is accessed from the drop down "open with" button within Drive. It seems to do a good job. I always run into issues with Qcad.

Thanks for the info. I did cut out bases for the feet with holes in them so it can be bolted down.

I built a jig to make the frames. The second one will be quicker.

I built this today for a friend. 48" seat width, 14 gauge 2" square tubing, 3/16" plate. I'm going to paint it flat black with my sprayer. How much do you think I could get for this? http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h222/jbc28/20160509_160304_zpsn7utqwmw.jpg http://i65.photobucket.co...

Re: Hyperthem 65/85...Almost ready to pull the trigger - few questions

I was in a similar position. I was thinking the 65 would be more than enough, but I decided to get the 85 instead. I like the increase in duty cycle and capability. My compressor and cutter are both on the same 100 amp breaker...no trouble so far.

Re: Inkscape <---> QCAD scaling issues

Here is the file that I am testing.

I tried to simplify, but I don't see any difference. This file was opened in qcad and converted to svg with 1:1. There are so many nodes that it just bogs down inkscape.

Re: Inkscape <---> QCAD scaling issues

Can someone explain how to do this in qcad? I tried exporting a dxf to svg and Inkscape slowly opened a glob of a drawing. I think this may be my problem. Thanks. If you are getting a blob of a drawing in Inkscape it is most likely being imported too small. After you click on the export SVG (advanc...

Re: Inkscape <---> QCAD scaling issues

Here is what I have learned so far... I drew a 1"x1" box in QCAD using the rectangle function, converted it to a polyline and saved as a R27 (2013) DXF. QCAD units were set to inches - If you OPEN or IMPORT the DXF into Inkscape and scale by 25.4 using the options tab, it shows up as squa...
