Re: Scrap Bin

I just load the used up sheets on the trailer. When I need to use the trailer, the scrap yard is pretty much on the way to anywhere from here. I used to stack them on the ground and then load the trailer when I had enough material to make it worthwhile. But they don't give any more for 500 lbs vs 50...

Re: Piercing 3/8" thick plate

This has me curious. If you pre-pierce and then go back to cut starting at the pierce point won't the torch just start and flame out as it doesn't find any material? No, because it's just like edge starting, and will pick up the edge, and move real quickly. Holes that are plasma punched will have a...

Re: Burny 10 post processor file

I don't use a Burny or sheetcam but the post processor files should be modifieable in sheetcam. There really isn't that much to them so Burny support should be able to help you out.

Re: Where no finger should go.

Strange. My old Esab system had hi frequency start and the tech that worked on it would put the nozzle to his hand and pull the trigger to see if the hi freq would start. Not much happened, but that was how he checked for proper hi freq. I never tried it and don't regret it.

Please keep us all posted with the outcome. I'd be interested in viewing images of all tests with cut parameter details.

Re: Need to Increase Kerf Width

Does your software/controller allow you to turn THC off for that specific cut path if you make it a slot? Or depending on how long the slot is turn THC off after it goes down one side and is ready to turn around? I agree that trying to widen the kerf with a single cut will most likely make a mess, ...

Need to Increase Kerf Width

I have a job cutting 3/16" mild steel that requires 0.125" slots. From the PM105 cut chart, I see max kerf at 0.080". Has anyone experimented with slowing the machine speed and increasing arc volts to get a wider kerf? Maybe both and increasing amperage also. The drawing shows open pr...

Re: Going to put some expanded metal on my slats

I have very good results bridging parts by leaving a 1/16" tab on the parts so they all stay connected. Just put a bar on the bottom and connect a bunch to the bar. Easy to handle and minimum cleanup. Just break them off and finish with a flap disc. Also reduces the number of pierces.

Re: loosing consumables to quickly in 1" plate.

My Hypertherm CAM software has a parameter to "prepierce" all the holes and then go back to actually cut the parts. I use old consumables and don't worry about them until the code brings the torch back to start the actual cutting. Works really well. Also. I made the mistake one time of usi...

Re: Do I need a Compressed Air dryer ?

Hypertherm support said "A regulated 85 psi air supply is required.". I have mine set to 100 psi after the first water separator right at the compressor. Then through the air dryer. There is a paper filter at the power supply, about 50 feet away, that I check about every year. No moisture ...

Re: Dispose of slag

I find an old refrigerator or freezer. Drill a few holes in the back and throw in on the trailer. Fill it with all the table dross and take it to the recycler. It was 5500 lbs last time. They give me crap sometimes but they always take it. And hell, if they decided to not pay me, I'd give it to them...

Just offhand, I'd say the circumference of the mild steel and stainless tubing are not the same. Double check dimensions of the two tubes.

Re: Blowing water off torch tip prior to ohmic touch

If you are continuously cutting, then the post flow should stay on long enough to blow water away from the new pierce location. If not, then assuming you have a Hypertherm machine, turn the amp dial all the way down to zero amps to activate the air flow before you begin your cut.

Re: Q on looping excess work lead cord

I think the looping work lead acting as an antenna is more of an issue with hi frequency start plasma systems. My old Esab PCM1000 was notorious for causing errors on my controller due to the hi frequency ignition. Esab was sure the errors were from an antenna somewhere in my system. I've never had ...

Is she hot? The only job I've ever balked at was for some odd, unreadable text for a church. At least that's what he called it. Re: Help me optimize this cut

Radiused corners make common line cutting difficult. But it could be done if you put some thought into it. Bridging the pieces together would be fairly simple. If you group the pieces into four, extend the cut line from one to another. Since the outside cuts are clockwise, the group of four could be...

Hypertherm Ohmic system. It's just a ground contact between the nozzle and the plate. The controller then retracts to a preset height for piercing.

Re: Misfires on pierce

I used to get misfires on my PM1250 due to friction between the electrode and the swirl ring. They just start to stick. A new swirl ring seems to fix it.
