Re: Need help converting a image file

Here's a DXF of the leaf words. It will take some creative bridging or planning to cut. I'd probably make a larger offset maple leaf from metal and either cut/engrave it in wood for the top layer.

Hopefully this will get you going.

Probably so. The cleaned up an bridged version I emailed back to you is 70.8k so it should upload here to share if you want.

Re: Plasma or Laser?

I have a Chinese 90 watt but it is not designed or set up for cutting metal. I can mark metal with thermal marking spray but cutting is limited to wood, acrylic, and the like. If you're wanting a serious metal cutting laser you'll be in the 300+ watt range for light sheetmetal and the 3kw+ range for...

Re: $5 if someone with the Advanced Design Software can convert my PCM file to DXF

You can convert to a .dxf with your software, I'm sure. Open up your software, open up your desired PCM drawing file, under the file tab choose export......and send it to any folder you want....it will be in .dxf format if you use the export function. Jim Colt That requires the Advanced Design upgr...

Re: Over Head Crane ideas

I don't have a picture handy but I built a gantry crane. I have 2 I-beams running lengthwise alongside table and a rolling I-beam on trolleys between them. Off the bottom of that I have an electric winch mounted to a trolley. I use a vertical plate clamp or two horizontal plate clamps and chain to m...

Re: Typing text and tracing it

Dave, Sounds like since you're using text you have Advanced Design. It would be much easier to make the font usable in Design Edge. If you open your font folder (probably \Windows\Fonts) you can look at the properties of the font file for the one you are trying to use. If it is an OTF (Open Type Fon...

Yessir, I can scale, stretch, scale just one axis and any number of things from DesignEdge but a lot of folks use different things so it's good to have options I guess! :-)

I did it quick and didn't do extra smoothing. :-) If you had Design Edge Advanced Design ($$) it's as simple as smoothing the paths. I just didn't take the extra time, your method got it straightened right up!

Re: Temp control help on oven

I have an SSR running the control circuit of a propane heater for my large oven and am in the process of building a smaller (4'x3'x8') oven that will be electric and will use the SSR to control an electric heat sequencer (24v control circuit that will bring my 3 strips on in stages). My background i...

Re: Help with Logo

Here ya go. I left a copy of the logo by itself as well as one with an offset so it can be cut in the negative & look good. Depending on what size you cut it, you might need to add a few bridges to stiffen it up. 12 gauge or heavier and it will probably be fine at 18" high. Your guarantee i...

Re: Temp control help on oven

You should use the SSR's for the control circuit of contactors (larger relays) as the SSR contacts are not rated for the current needed to operate most heating elements.

Re: PlasmaCam RENEGES on eBay Sales

You don't say if it's the X or Y axis. If you're not loosing steps on the stepper motor or a gear isn't loose then, it sounds like the steps per inch needs to be changed to get the other 2 inches. At that point you may not get a true hole and will have to change the other directions steps per inch ...

Here's the conversion. That original image is pretty low resolution and I could get a nice trace but it would certainly take some time!

Re: ASSISTANCE WITH A CLEANING UP SIGN

Here's a DXF.

I used Paint.Net to increase DPI to 150 then enlarged to 12" or so. Then selected the background and erased it, painted the foreground black. Imported into Design Edge and smoothed to take the little bit of roughness from pixelation away.

Here you go, hope this helps. It is far from perfect but should cut. Took me a little over an hour to do - original art was poor resolution and the thing needs a ton of bridging to cut without fallouts and spindly messes. I might have missed some but it's bedtime and tomorrow is a short vacay! Good ...
