Re: Using Drawing Pads to Create Graphics?

Drawing pads are great for two things: Digitizing a drawing (hard copy) and those with a problem using a mouse to draw stuff on screen. Its easier to take a large line drawing , tape it to the pad and digitize it there than to scan and do it with a mouse. The larger the pad the more useful it is. Th...

Re: Gcode Error, Help!

EMC needs g-code in a very specific format. I doubt a Burny post will get you there. Its LinuxCNC telling you "I don't understand the code you are sending me" You may have to consider a different CAM package than using Fusion 360 or find someone that has written a plasma post for EMC (aka ...

Re: I want to get better quality cuts where do I start?

Don't get fixated on Book Specs. You need to run some straight line tests cuts on flat material with the DTHC in MANUAL and OFF . Make sure your touch off works perfect and you start the cut at -063 . Set your feedrate at book or 90% of book. Then note the Torch volts as it cuts. Also note the quali...

Re: E Stop Series wiring

Time to get out your ohmmeter or continuity tester. The e-stop string has to be NC. There is an LED on the Table I/O card that will com eon when the circuit is closed. If you have an external E- Stop button you have to determine which set of contacts on it are normally closed and wire it into the E-...

This is not a primary hardware support forum. Its just users like yourself that mostly have file or cut issues. Since you appear to have a Arclight table (I found it from som eof your other posts) I would contact them on how to troubleshoot the THC. Failing that, you can contact the Support Forum of...

Re: PDF Drawing import

That is because its a pretty messy drawing. Several closed objects with width are part of the outline. They look like lines in the PDF but they are two lines side by side and closed On one or more the lines overlap. You need to get into a drawing program where you can see the wire frame view and do ...

Re: Battery Backup UPS Power Source

Not sure why you would want to continue to power your controller and move the table when the plasma , lights, stereo , fans and iron lung are all off? Don't you want the motors to stop moving? Maybe it will if you lose arc but then they don't need the controller on anyway. You primary concern is to ...

Re: Cutting corrogated metal

Yes. Climbing a 45 deg slope says your vertical travel is is the same speed as the horz. You need to crank the horz back or the z will hit the edge of the slope. In actuality the Z nees to be a little faster than XY . Never forget that your ACTUAL feedrate is a vector sum of the two axis feedrates. ...

Re: Looking for help converting this graphic for a Veteran in the family

That is definitely one that would not work well with auto trace unless you did some serious bitmap cleanup first, BUT doing it with the tools by hand you can basically just use it as a guide. Its really hard to trace lettering because the human eye reads by shapes and is really quick to catch even m...

Re: Cutting corrogated metal

If this is a stepper based Z and the typical 5Pi you are WAY over the max RPM you can expect. To get 350 ipm you have to spin the motor at 1750 RPM. That is 500 RPM than I have ever seen one do reliably. SO roll it back to about 200 to 250 and slow down the feedrate to about the same. You will need ...

Re: What Z axis is everyone using?

At one point PPLLC had offered a Z with a 12 TPI pitch that results in 23,000 steps per unit. If you use the max RPM of the motor around 600 RPM you end up with about 50 IPM max. Its like being stuck in first gear and you motor will not do more RPM to get you to 100 MPH The lead screw can be replace...

Re: Inkscape Tips???

It's a bit of a nebulous question. The method of tracing is largely dependent on the bitmap to be traced. The level of contrast or the difference between a simple black and white line drawing or a complex continuous tone bitmap all come into play. Then each type of trace has settings. The goal is to...

The Rotary Plasma Plugin for SheetCAM cuts round, square or I-Beam shapes. It handles the 4 axis and lifts the Z on the corners to get an continuous cut.

Re: Rod's Spaceship Scratch Built Plasma Table

The Raw Arc Volts on the rear connector on the Everlast are not a direct connection. It would be dangerous and foolish to have un restricted raw volts on a connector (at 50A or more) that is not rated for it and expose that to a human. Running raw volts across a shop is also a bad idea . They put a ...

DXFtool does nothing to "fix" a bad DXF nor will it make a line segmented DXF (no arcs) into a better file. You first have to use the tools in CorelDraw to get back the unsegmented arcs and circles. Its sole purpose is to take the internal Bezier Curves that are native to CorelDraw and som...

Re: Battery Backup UPS Power Source

A UPS is typically NOT a battery running an inverter that isolates it from the line all ot the time. 90% are standby (like a big transfer switch) that cut in only when the line drops out. They typically do have line filtering so that can help some but bad enough noise and spikes can still get throug...

Re: Supporting Rectangular tube in rotary plasma?

Supporting long lengths of square tubing is not as easy as round. You have to make it look round to the fixture. It means having a square to round adapter (s) that either clamp on the material and the torch moves u p and down the length ( while not hitting any of the adapters OR having the rotary ax...
